John Sinclair - Activist and Poet
"Hash Bash" Is Largely Due To His sentencing Of 10 Years For 2 Joints
Released And Then Helped Change Marijuana Law To $5 Fine in Ann Arbor, Michigan
John Sinclair was there for the 1st Hash Bash in 1972!
John Sinclair is from Flint, Michigan. Later moving to Ann Arbor. A poet and activist, he did
many awesome things. Started the White Panthers, Managed the MC5, and helped out on underground newspapers. He was arrested for giving away 2 joints
to an undercover police officer and sentenced to 10 years. This eventually led to an event (Free John Now! Rally) at Chrysler arena, in Ann Arbor,
that brought together many popular artists including John Lennon, MC5 and Stevie Wonder. He was released 3 days later. His sentence and the law were
overturned, leaving a lapse in the law for a time, where there was NO LAW. This led to the creation of the Hash Bash on April Fool's Day. Meant to
be a laugh in the face to the establishment. Then he helped get the $5 fine established for possession of small amounts of marijuana in Ann Arbor.
